Overview

ClapTimer is a hands-free round/interval timer for boxing, BJJ, and CrossFit that uses clap detection to start, pause, and reset the timer. Your privacy is important to us, and this policy explains how the app handles your data.

Microphone Usage

ClapTimer requests microphone access solely to detect claps in real-time. Here is how audio data is handled:

No audio is ever recorded, stored, or saved to the device or anywhere else.
No audio data is ever transmitted to any server, third party, or external service.
Audio is analyzed locally and in real-time only. The audio stream is processed on-device using a machine learning model (YAMNet) to identify clap sounds. Once analyzed, the audio data is immediately discarded.
The microphone is only active when the Clap Listening Service is running. You can stop the service at any time, and it stops automatically after 60 minutes of inactivity.

Data Collection

ClapTimer does not collect, store, or share any personal data. Specifically:

No personal information is collected.
No usage analytics or tracking is performed by the app itself.
No account creation is required.
No data is shared with third parties by the app.

Local Storage

The app stores only your timer preferences (round length, rest duration, number of rounds, sensitivity settings) locally on your device using Android SharedPreferences. This data never leaves your device.

Third-Party Services

Google AdMob

ClapTimer displays advertisements through Google AdMob. Google may collect certain data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. This is handled entirely by Google's SDK and is subject to Google's own privacy practices.

TensorFlow Lite (YAMNet)

The app uses a pre-trained machine learning model (YAMNet) that runs entirely on your device. No audio or data is sent to Google or any other service for classification. All inference happens locally.

Permissions

Permission	Purpose
RECORD_AUDIO	To detect claps via the device microphone. No audio is stored or transmitted.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE	To keep the clap detection running when the screen is off.
WAKE_LOCK	To maintain clap detection with the screen off.
REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS	To prevent Android from stopping the clap detection service.

Children's Privacy

ClapTimer does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. The app does not collect data from any user regardless of age.
